Ingredients
Making for
1 serving
- Apples1 each
- Peanut butter2 tbsp
- Granola0.25 cup
- Dark chocolate chips0 cup
Quantities scale linearly with servings. Round to the nearest practical amount when shopping.
Steps
- 1
Slice thin and fan them out
One apple into thin slices, spread flat on a plate rather than piled. This is a presentation trick and it is most of the recipe: the same apple and peanut butter, arranged like nachos, gets eaten when a whole apple does not.
- 2
Warm the peanut butter so it drizzles
Two tablespoons in a small bowl, 15 seconds in the microwave, stirred. Warm it pours in a thin stream over everything instead of sitting in one lump on one slice.

Toppings, sparingly
A tablespoon of granola for crunch, a few dark chocolate chips, a sprinkle of cinnamon. Sparingly is doing work here, because past a point this stops being fruit with peanut butter.
Coach's notes
- Same food as apple and peanut butter, which is already on this site, arranged differently. That is not a criticism, it is the entire point.
- Eaten immediately. It does not pack, and drizzled peanut butter in a lunchbox is a mess.
- About 12 g of protein and 6 g of fibre.
- A crisp apple matters more here than usual, because the slices are thin. Honeycrisp or Fuji.
