What you need
Ingredients
Making for
8 servings
- Raw almonds0.25 cup
- Raisins0.25 cup
- Dark chocolate chips0.25 cup
Quantities scale linearly with servings. Round to the nearest practical amount when shopping.
Steps
- 1
One part nuts, one part dried fruit, half a part something fun
Two cups of raw almonds, two cups of raisins or dried cherries, one cup of dark chocolate chips. That ratio is the whole recipe, and the chocolate is not optional in practice: mix without it comes back uneaten.
- 2
Portion it immediately into a quarter cup each
Eight small bags or containers, a quarter cup in each, done while the big jar is open. A quarter cup is about 200 calories, and trail mix eaten by the handful from a tub is one of the easiest ways to eat 700 without noticing.
Coach's notes
- Nuts and dried fruit are both calorie dense on purpose. That is useful before a long session and easy to overdo on the sofa.
- Buy unsalted or lightly salted. On a hot training day a little salt is genuinely helpful.
- Dried fruit is sticky and does stick to teeth, so it is better before brushing than after.
- Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds swap in for a nut-free team.
